Cu is the chemical symbol for Copper, element number 29 on the periodic table. The symbol Cu comes from the Latin word Cuprum, named after the island of Cyprus. Copper is a transition metal in Period 4, Group 11 — the same group as Silver (Ag) and Gold (Au). It has an exceptional electron configuration of [Ar] 3d¹⁰ 4s¹ and is one of the best electrical conductors known. Click on Cu in the table above to see all its properties.
